Hong Kong
A Nepali lady serving as an airhostess for Hong Kong’s Dragon Air has been awarded the best airhostess award by the Airport Authority of Hong Kong. Ms Aruna Gurung was presented with a ‘Customer Service Excellence Award’ by Hong Kong’s airport authority chief Mr. Stanley Hui, the Chief Executive Officer of the Airport Authority, at Hong Kong International Airport last week.
Aruna Gurung has been working for Dragon Air for 22 years and this is the first time that the entire team in the airlines was presented with the award in recognition of their handling of the passengers on two occasions last year. According to Miss Gurung who is also the senior most airhostess of the airline, the award was presented to them for their effective handling of the crisis and coordination of the team work on an occasion when a flight was forced to get diverted to Macau and another time to Beijing last year. Both the flights were destined to Hong Kong, but due to engine failures they had to be diverted to different destinations. Ms Gurung, as an in-charge of the entire cabin crew, successfully and effectively handled the situation where all the passengers and cabin members were satisfied.
Speaking to the Nepali radio programme at the RTHK she said that she was extremely happy and felt that as an honour for her service with the airline. ‘I am very proud and happy to receive such an award,’ she said.
Gurung says that at the time of any crisis during the flight, passengers mostly suffer from various psychological pressures and the handling of the situation by flight attendants makes a huge difference.
This is the first time a Nepali lady has received such an award in an international city like Hong Kong. She said that she will try her best to discharge her duties in the best possible and professional way in the future as well.
Hong Kong’s international airport has been voted the best airport in the world in 2010.
