Several groups of Nepalese students from various local schools in Hong Kong performed at Hong Kong university on 28 March to mark the Chinese language carnival for non-Chinese students. The annual programme was organized by the Department of Chinese language education under the faculty of Education at The University of Hong Kong.

Students from Delia Memorial Broadway, Sir Ellis Kadoorie, Delia Memorial Hip Ho, Pak Kau College and Bethel High School performed varieties of cultural dances and drama in Chinese language.

The programme is said to have been organized to promote Chinese language learning culture among the non-Chinese students in Hong Kong. There are roughly few thousand non-Chinese students studying at local schools.

The Chinese Language Education and Research department of the University of Hong Kong has been providing Chinese language education to secondary level non-Chinese students at various secondary schools. Under the New Senior Secondary Curriculum all students in Hong Kong have to pass Chinese language examination at HKDSE along with English, Mathematics and Liberal Studies. Since the Chinese language examination of HKDSE is thought to be more challenging to non-Chinese students, Hong Kong universities have agreed to accept GCSE Chinese language qualification as an alternative to the HKDSE Chinese language examination.
