The Consulate General of Nepal has issued a press release which states that a Nepalese delegation led by Joint Secretary of Ministry of Labour and Transport Management has met with the officials of the Hong Kong Immigration Department and discussed on the issue of granting visa for Nepalese women to work as Domestic Helpers in Hong Kong.
The press release issued by the Consulate General is as follows :
A Nepalese delegation led by Mr. Purna Chandra Bhattarai, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Transport Management, held talks with the officials of the Hong Kong Immigration Department led by Mr. M.L. Chan, Assistant Director (Control), in Hong Kong this morning. Mr. Sushil K Lamsal, Acting Consul General, also took part in the meeting.
At the meeting, the Nepalese delegation raised the issue of the current visa policy of Hong Kong SAR regarding the Nepalese nationals, and requested the Government of Hong Kong SAR to allow Nepalese women workers to work as Foreign Domestic Helpers in Hong Kong.
In response, the officials of the Hong Kong Immigration Department said that Hong Kong had a dynamic and flexible visa policy with the twin considerations of facilitating nationals of foreign countries to travel and work in Hong Kong and of ensuring adequate immigration control and security. They also informed that Hong Kong reviewed its visa policy from time to time, and that the issue of the visa regime vis-à-vis Nepalese nationals would be considered during such a review by taking into consideration the relevant factors into account.
The Nepalese delegation comprises officials of the Ministry of Labour and Transport Management, Department of Foreign Employment, Foreign Employment Promotion Board, as well as the representatives of UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM).
