Nepal's fragile peace process is in perils, says Pushpa Kamal Dahal alia Prachanda, the leader of a largest party in the country, Unified CPN (Maoist). Former Prime Minister Prachanda also expressed that he is extremely concerned about the stories that were doing rounds about a 'big disaster' in the country.
Nepal has been hit by diarrhea in recent days. Hundreds of people have died in the far western region due to lack of medication and safe drinking water.
However the CPN UML led government has displayed its apparent apathy towards the plight of the people.
The former prime minister Prachanda reiterated his commitment to peace and claimed that the Maoists were being pushed away from the ongoing peace process.
"We have heard about a big confrontation in the country in a month and a half. Those who are against democracy and constitution are hatching conspiracy to derail the peace process. Country's peace certainly is facing the threat of getting ambushed," said he, referring to the recent attempt of the CPN UML led government to purchase arms from India.
According to the agreement the policical parties made back in 2005, Nepali army as well as People's Liberation Army are not allowed to purchase arms before the peace process concludes. The People's Liberation Army is now confined in temporary cantonments after the UN brokered peace deal between the Maoist Party and other political parties.
Hinting at news stories on arms import from India, Dahal said if such things happened, it would put country's fledgling democracy to peril.
